Zusammenfassung: Glass microscope slides were exposed in a small, softwater stream at two sites: the spring and near the stream outflow. These sites differed in their physical and chemical parameters. After six weeks, six slides at the spring were transferred to the downstream site. Changes in the diatom communities on these slides were then studied after 3 days, 1 week, and 1 month. Eunotia minor showed a response after three days. This species attains a high abundance only at the downstream site, and rapidly became dominant on the slides transferred to this site. Community analysis and species richness parameters for different sample sets are presented. Populations of Achnanthes lanceolata, dominant at both sites, were analyzed biometrically with respect to morphological differences in this taxon at the two sites.
