Abstract: The electric dipole intercombination decay of the 2s2p P-3(l)o level in the Be-like ions N3+ and O4+ has been observed with ions circulating in a heavy-ion storage ring. The measurement exploited the sensitivity to extreme-ultraviolet light of a storage ring internal device (MCP) that is normally used only for particle detection. The measured transition probabilities of 500(-65)(+90) s(-1) for N3+ and of 2180 +/- 70 s(-1) for O4- corroborate the results of recent calculations and improve the precision with which the isoelectronic trend can be established experimentally.
