 Abstract: We have performed elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements on the cubic Laves phase compound TmAl2 and diluted (Tm, La)Al2 systems. The elastic scattering measurements show that TmAl2 orders ferromagnetically below 4.2 K and in a canted ferromagnetic structure below 3.1 K. In the inelastic neutron scattering spectra (for energy transfers up to 2.5 meV) of the disordered systems three inelastic lines, due to crystal field transitions, are found, where the position of one line depends strongly on the TmAl2 concentration.
