Abstract:
Currently the high-precision Penning-trap experiment ALPHATRAP is set up at the
Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, which will allow measuring the g-factor of the bound
electron in highly charged ions. In a precurser experiment at Mainz ground vibrations
have shown to have a negative influence on the achievable precision. In order to decouple
ALPHATRAP from ground vibrations an active compensation using piezoelements is
to be installed. In the course of this work a system has been set up that allows direct
measurement of the ground movement. A pendulum with a low resonance frequency
acts as a resting reference point relative to which the movement of the ground can be
measured. A capacitive distance sensor which has been built in the course of this work
is used to measure the position. The sensitivity of the prototype was determined and
compared to commercial sensors.
