The KORDIAL Study is a multi-centre, randomised, controlled, single-blind, parallel-group trial evaluating the efficacy of a neuropsychology-based behavioural intervention for patients at the early stage of Alzheimers disease in an everyday context. The experimental intervention has been designed to meet the needs and abilities of individuals with incipient dementia. Its major objectives are (1) to improve the patients day-to-day functioning, particularly by strategies for the compensation of cognitive deficits, (2) to support effective emotional coping, and (3) to prevent secondary psychiatric morbidity. To ensure long-term effects on everyday functioning, the intervention systematically involves the patients proxies. If the efficacy of the intervention can be demonstrated neuropsychological behavioural therapy may become are regular component of the management of patients with incipient dementia.
