To enable the operation of the new reaction microscope in the Test Storage Ring (TSR) located at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg, the stored ion beam had to be bunched into short pulses with an HF-Resonator. The desired resolution of the reaction microscope can only be achieved with bunches shorter than 5 ns. Within this diploma thesis, a theoretical framework for the bunching process of an ion beam was implemented. This theory was veri ed by di erent experiments which were done in the TSR with an electron-cooled 50MeV 12C6+ beam with bunch lengths of 15 ns and a stored ion current of I0 = 15 μA. To further minimize the bunch length of the ion beam, the TSR was run in a mode in which the revolutionfrequency at higher energies decreased (η<0). This reduced the bunchlength by up to 3:5 times compared to the standard mode, ful lling the goal of this project. During this beamtime, self-bunching of the ion beam was also observed for the rst time in the TSR.
