Abstract: By eigenspace analysis of the Bloch-McConnell equation we found a general signal equation for chemical exchange saturation transfer imaging experiments. The solution is easy extendable to the multi-pool situation in vivo including a broad semisolid MT pool. Investigation of the theory leads to an interesting and easy to employ result: effects in the Z-spectrum add up reciprocally! Therefore, difference image methods lead to a clean CEST contrast if images are first inverted and then subtracted. This allowed for clean in-vivo CEST evaluation in the case of acute stroke.
