 Abstract: To date fMRI has been primarily interpreted in terms of neural activation by excitatory inputs. Neural systems are clearly controlled by both excitatory and inhibitory input, and it can be defined all neuronal process involves both inputs. Nevertheless, the mechanism of this interaction has not been clarified yet. The objective of this report is to clarify this mechanism of inhibitory and excitatory interactions by using fMRI and SEP in rat somatosensory cortex. Cross-hemispheric inhibition was consistently observed at 20-140msec in inter stimulus interval at low current, while an excitatory reaction was detected at 167-400msec only in 1.5mA in current.
