Abstract: Peptaibols (peptidic fungus defense compounds, such as alamethicin F) are powerful elicitors of multiple metabolic activities in plants. In a model system, lima bean leaves, these compounds induce emission of ethylene, along with other volatile compounds which act as synomones. Tendril coiling in touch‐sensitive plants can also be effectively stimulated with these substances. (Aib=2‐Amino‐2‐methylpropionic acid, Pheol=phenylalaninol.)
