 Abstract: Gravitational waves and their detection are becoming more and more important both for the theoretical physicist and the astrophysicist. In fact, technological developments have enabled the construction such sensitive detectors (bars and interferometers) that the detection of gravitational radiation could become a reality during the next few years. In these lectures we give a brief overview of this interesting and challenging field of modern physics. The topics to be covered are divided into 6 lectures: elements of gravitational waves, gravitational wave detectors, sources, energy, mass- and current-quadrupole radiation, and examples of source calculations
