Abstract: As is already well-known, individual domains in yellow β-InI3 transform irreproducibly into red α-InI3 at low temperature. It has now been possible to gain information about the structure of this phase by way of the InI3[BOND]InBr3 system. On cooling a melt, mixed crystals of α-InI3−xBrx (x ≈ 1) could be grown which were suitable for X-ray structure analysis.
