Integrins are cell surface receptors for extracellular matrix proteins and, as such, regulate adhesive cell-matrix interactions. New findings indicate that the beta(4) integrin subunit can also function as a signalling effector for the activated receptor tyrosine kinase Met and enhance invasive growth independent of its adhesive role.
