Abstract: This article describes the general wave of marketization in Britain. Public services are often considered to have become unresponsive to users' actual preferences. It is noted that marketization moves all assume that the public wants the services in question, but seek more choice and better quality. The tackling of perceived remoteness from the private sector is discussed. It is shown how marketization is a multifaceted strategy. It is not the same as privatization, but overlaps it. Controversy is still surrounding marketization.
