Abstract:
In der Erklärung des "Aufstiegs Ostasiens" sind die transnationalen, regionalen Aspekte bisher vernachlässigt worden. Das Papier weist nach, dass die Region Ostasien einen adäquaten Gegenstand für eine integrationstheoretische Analyse darstellt, in Bezug auf mehrere wirtschaftliche und politische Dimensionen und im Vergleich mit anders definierten Regionen (Südostasien, Asien-Pazifik). Es handelt sich um eine Integrationsdynamik, die weitgehend ohne rechtliche Abkommen und ohne formale Institutionen zustande gekommen ist. Charakteristisch für den Integrationsprozess in Ostasien sind flexible, netzwerkartige Formen der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Kooperation auf mehreren Ebenen.
Abstract:
Attempts to explain the "rise of East Asia" often neglect transnational and regional aspects. After analyzing transnational political and economic processes in and beyond the region, the paper concludes that East Asia, in comparison with other conceptualizations of regions (Southeast Asia, Asia-Pacific), is an appropriate object for integration research. The region's integration dynamic has evolved not from legal agreements or formal institutions, but rather from flexible, network-like forms of political and economic cooperation at different levels.
