Abstract: This article highlights some recent results on the capture and interactive display of high quality 3D models with complex appearance. For use in photorealistic rendering or object recognition, a high quality model must capture two things: the shape of the object represented as a geometric description of its surface and the appearance of the materials it is made of, e.g. the object's color, texture, or reflection properties. The article shows how computer vision and computer graphics techniques can be seamlessly integrated into a 3D object pipeline for capturing, processing, and interactive display of objects with complex appearance.
