 Abstract: The present work is concerned with the growth control of mesoporous silica materials (SBA-3-type) on surfaces. Different homogeneous and patterned surfaces are investigated. As a decisive tool for surface structuring, microcontact printing (μCP)[5] is employed to pattern self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with different chemical functional groups. These surfaces are exposed to an SBA-3-type synthesis and analyzed in situ and afterwards. The aim of this dissertation is to provide answers to the following questions:
(1) How can artificial surfaces influence the growth in an SBA-3-type synthesis?
(2) How far can patterned surfaces control over parameters such as morphology, size, and orientation of the grown assemblies?
(3) How can the growth be followed in situ? Which method can be used?
(4) What are the growth dynamics of these assemblies on surfaces? Is there a difference to the growth in the homogeneous synthesis solution?
(5) What are the formation mechanisms governing the growth on homogeneous and patterned surfaces?
Finally this work will show possible applications of the growth control of SBA-3-type materials.
