Abstract: In 1964 Vaillant reported the occurence of Bergenstammia nudipes (Loew) in the West Alps. The species was originally described by Loew (1858) from "Ober Italien". Several populations from the eastern Alps were inspected and found to be identical with the type material in size and shape of the inner appendage of the gonostyle, but very distinct from the West Alpine specimens. This justifies the description of a new species.
