Abstract
In summer 1963 samples from sand and gravel deposits of Swedish streams and lakes were examined. This material contains stygophile and stygobiont species of several systematic groups. The water mites (Limnohalacaridae) and their ecological conditions are discussed in this paper. The 396 mites collected belong to 8 species of 6 genera. The three most abundant species are Soldanellonyx chappuisi WALTER (43 %), Lobohalacarus weberi quadriporus (WALTER) (28 %), and Porohalacarus caecus n. sp. (13 %); the latter is described.
7 of the 22 samples contain Limnohalacaridae. Their geographical and ecological characteristics are discussed and classified. Special attention is given to the recognizable aspects of history of distribution, namely the importance of Rhithrostygal and Mesobryophytal for the distribution of water mites.
Abb. 9).
