Abstract:
Bibliometric data has been compiled for seven selected research institutes that are predominantly active in plant sciences and related fields. The data includes the number of publications and their citations, as well as further derivative parameters which allow quantitative assessments of publication “output” and, in particular, of the “impact” that these publications have had within the scientific community. Although citation-based impact cannot be taken as the final measure of importance and quality of publications, citation data can provide evidence for strengths and weaknesses and thus, when viewed in context with other factors, can serve as valuable indicators of research performance.
