 Abstract: Direct communication between two disconnected nerve cells via a semiconductor chip with integrated circuitry has been achieved (see Figure), enabling reliable feeding of single action potentials from nerve cells into a digital electronic processor. The intrinsic problem of stimulation/recording crosstalk is also addressed. This system represents a key step towards neurocomputing.
