Abstract: The clustering of hydrogen molecules around a cation in dense interstellar clouds is examined taking into account recent accurate information about the structure and thermochemistry of these clusters. In general, these clustering processes are not important due to the small probability of occurrence of radiative association at low densities. However, the long lived metastable complex (H5+)* makes the concentration of the H clusters to be of the same order of the concentration of H3+ in these media. This result may have considerable implications for the chemistry of dense interstellar clouds. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
