要旨:
Although magnetic resonance imaging initially results in complex data points, describing a rotation with amplitude and phase, only the magnitude of the images is usually used.
At high field, the phase information becomes increasingly valuable and can be used to improve or replace conventional contrast mechanisms. High-resolution phase images are able to show additional structures not visible in magnitude images. The formation of the phase contrast is explained and the postprocessing needed to obtain phase images is described. Several possible origins for phase contrast are
presented. Images from humans and rats are shown to demonstrate the possibilities of phase imaging to depict intracortical structure.
