Purpose
In a previous study, we have detected in human subjects blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) signal changes evoked by a visual stimulus presented only for 5ms [1]. Moreover, the extrapolated intercept at 0ms stimulus duration was not zero suggesting [2] that below a specific stimulus duration the hemodynamic response remains constant.
In this study, we have used stimulus durations as short as 0.1ms (7T) and 1ms (3T), in order to explore the existence of a minimum hemodynamic response.
Conclusion
• For the first time we could able to show a BOLD time course to a stimulus duration as short as 0.1ms (7T) and 1ms at (3T) in human subjects.
• The response to different stimulus durations can be easily differentiated from each other suggesting that hemodynamic response does not become independent of stimulus duration at least down to 0.1ms stimulus.
