Abstract: The spectral lines of most transition elements in charge states higher than q = 5+ are completely unknown, in spite of their fundamental importance for many fields of physics. For investigations of a possible time dependence of the fine structure constant, the transition lines of the Ir17+-spectra are of special interest, because of their hight-sensitivity. The therefore necessary laserspectroscopic investigations con not be carried out the accuracy of theoretical predictions is not good enough due to the complex electronic structure of the ions. In this work, a isoelectronic investigation of Os16+ for wavelengths between 300 nm and 660nm was carried out. The accuracy of the transition lines reaches 0,002 nm. Furthermore, the electron-impact mediated quenching of the transitions observed in Ir17+ was investigated, enabling approximations of the lifetime of the involved exited states.
