 Abstract: Solid SeF4 is monomeric, and not—like solid TeF4—polymeric. The differences in the bonding can be ascribed to the respective degrees of hybridization of the chalcogens and can be described in terms of sp3d (SeF4, pseudo trigonal bipyramidal) and sp3d2 states (TeF4, pseudo-octahedral).
