Abstract:
The Kondo Lattice compound CeCu2Si2 has generated considerable interest, because of the observation of bulk superconductivity below which is believed to be connected with “heavy fermions.“ Recently the results of a high pressure study of the electrical resistivity of CeCu2Si2 down to the sub Kelvin temperature range have been interpreted on the basis of a valence transition associated with a steep increase of the superconducting critical temperature Tc to about 2 K near 25 kbar.
The purpose of the present high pressure study was to see if evidence could be found for such a valence transition, by looking for anomalies in the p-V curves of CeCu2Si2. At the same time non-stoichiometric CeCu2Si2 samples, which are not superconducting, were investigated, to remove any ambiguity in the interpretation of the results. The compounds LaCu2Si2 and YCu2Si2 were also studied.
