Abstract: Mesoporous fibers grown in a slow acidic synthesis consist of hexagonally ordered pores which are running in a circular direction around the fiber axis. This novel pore architecture contradicts the commonly assumed pore arrangements and requires a rethinking of the formation mechanisms previously proposed. It is suggested that circular structured seeds play the key role in the formation mechanism for these fibers.
