Abstract:
Segment-level cross-linguistic databases such as Phoible and Ruhlen are great resources, but they do not provide abstract classes of sounds (such as "consonant" or "front rounded vowel") needed for more abstract cross-linguistic comparisons.
This resource, developed with Scott Moisik as part of the G[ɜ]bils project and freely available on GitHub, uses two feature systems to define and count such abstract classes across the languages contained in these two databases. There you can find not only the database itself (in the output folder) but also the needed input files (input folder) and the actual R script (code folder), allowing our results to be reproduced and extended.
