Abstract: Electron beam ion traps (EBITs) are important and versatile tools to generate and trap highly charged ions (HCI). EBITs enable spectroscopy with HCIs and can be used as a source for subsequent experiments. Two magnetic systems for compact electron beam ion traps have been built and characterised during this thesis. Additionally, the magnetic field has been characterised and compared to each other and the simulations, which were calculated beforehand, as well as to the already existing prototype. The compact EBIT model has many benefits. With a weight of just over 50 kg and a lenght of 32 cm, it is small enough to be placed on a table. The magnetic systems discussed in this thesis are the, so far, strongest permanent magnetic EBITs existing. Their magnetic field has a maximum of over 0:85 T.
