Abstract:
Aluminum hydride molecules AlH are detected and identified by tunable dye-laser mass spectroscopy as collision-free UV excimer laser photoproducts of the Al alkyls TEA (triethylaluminum (C2H5)3Al) and TIBA (triisobutylaluminum (i-C4H9)3Al) at 248 and 193 nm. An internal energy distribution analysis of the photoproducts shows only minor vibrational excitation of ν″ = 1 and a Boltzmann-type rotational energy distribution with a temperature of about 0.03 eV, compared to the incoming photon energy of 5.0 or 6.42 eV.
