Abstract: Functional ASL has a higher specificity and reproducibility than BOLD fMRI. However, the perfusion related signal is typically in the range of a few percent and the spatial and temporal resolution of arterial spin labeling imaging rather limited. ASL at ultra-high field can benefit from higher intrinsic SNR and increased longitudinal relaxation times. We investigated bSSFP and GRE-EPI as possible readout schemes for fASL studies at 9.4 T and were able to measure the first time stimulus evoked perfusion changes in the human motor cortex at this field strength.
