 Abstract: Accurate measurements of vehicle manoeuvres are of great value in research, development and simulation. To this end, a recording platform was developed that can provide high-quality synchronised video/inertial data recordings of vehicle manoeuvres. The system allows for capturing stereoscopic video footage from a driver’s perspective, while simultaneously recording vehicle motion data using an inertial navigation system (INS) consisting of a FOG-based IMU and a GPS system. We have developed software to accurately synchronise the recorded video with the inertial data, and used the recordings in perceptual experiments on an 8-DOF motion simulator to realistically reproduce driving and flight scenarios.
