Abstract: Aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a new quantitative T2 mapping approach using partial spoiling in patients after cartilage repair of the knee; furthermore to compare and correlate the results against the established methodology of T2 mapping with a multi-slice multi-echo (MSME) technique.

Both quantitative T2 techniques showed comparable results and a high correlation in the evaluation of cartilage repair tissue and healthy reference cartilage.

The new technique may provide additional benefits and possibilities in future approaches allowing for high resolution and three-dimensional, isotropic quantitative T2 mapping.
