Abstract:
The nuclear magnetic shielding tensors of the carboxyl protons in α‐oxalic acid dihydrate, (COOH)2⋅2H2O, have been determined by solid state high resolution multiple pulse techniques. The results, σAv=−11.3±1 ppm relative to liquid H2O, Δσ=29.65±0.2 ppm, and η=0.10±0.02, are compared with deuterium data obtained recently by Vega, Shattuk, and Pines with a novel technique. Our data completely remove the discrepancy between the shielding anisotropies of the protons and the corresponding deuterons reported by Vega et al. on the basis of older multiple pulse proton data of Yeung.
