Abstract: Fluorine-containing bismuth vanadate (F:BiVO4) powder was synthesized using a new, clean, and simple solid-vapor reaction. Incorporation of fluorine mainly leads to the formation of cation vacancies. Electrodes were fabricated from the pre-synthesized powder samples by electrophoretic deposition onto fluorine-doped tin oxide coated glass slides and subsequent calcination. The photoelectrochemical performance concerning the water oxidation reaction was investigated and compared to pristine BiVO4 revealing strongly enhanced photoelectrochemical behavior for the F-containing BiVO4.
