Abstract: A new genus (Kempfsimulium of the Neotropical Prosimuliini is described based on Simulium simplicicolor Lutz, 1910, at the level of a new combination. Data a¡e presented on the biology, intergeneric differences, geographical distribution (southern Brazilian Amazon region) as well as a complete
redescription of the species.
Two additional new combinations are made: Lutzsimulium flavopubescens (LUTZ, 1910) n.comb.
and Mayacnephia muzquicensis (DIAZ NÁJERA), 1971) n. comb., and some characters of the pupa of
Lutzsimulium spp. are revised.
