Abstract:
Specimens of Macrobrachium amazonicum collected in the "várzea" of the Solimões river were
used to study the complete larval development in laboratory. The females carry many (289 to 2.259),
small (0.79 ± 0.043 x 1.05 ± 0.071 mm) eggs. Incubation period was 15 to 17 days. The larval development is typical, having 10 - 11 free-swimming stages in 28 to 33 days. A brief description and illustrations
of all larval stages and first juvenile are given.
