Abstract:
Scientific practice in archaeology, defined here as the application of laboratory-based scientific methods in archaeological practice, encompasses a diversity of interest groups, methodologies, and challenges. In this entry, we argue that archaeological science is inseparable from social, political, and economic contexts, and thus scientific practice in this field requires navigation of diverse interests while also maintaining robust scientific frameworks and procedures.
