 Abstract: Rok 2019 byl mezinárodním rokem periodické soustavy prvků, jejíž organizační princip, založený na atomovém čísle/elektrickém náboji jádra, byl objeven na základě rentgenové spektroskopie Henrym Moseleyem. ten navázal na dílo Charlese barkly, který objevil charakteritické rentgenové záření prvků. Moseleyho pokračovatelem byl Manne Siegbahn, v jehož laboratoři působil i václav Dolejšek (viz též vesmír 74, 334, 1995/6). Klíčovou roli v průkopnickém období sehrál niels bohr, jehož kvantový model atomu poskytl teoretický základ pro intrerpretaci rentgenových spekter.
