Abstract: Manganese (Mn)-Enhanced MRI (MEMRI) has recently been shown to selectively enhance a number of adult mouse brain regions following subcutaneous injection of MnCl2. We tested the sensitivity of a similar MEMRI approach in the early postnatal mouse brain. Postnatal day 1-10 (P1-P10) mice were injected intra-peritoneally with MnCl2, and imaged after 24-h with 3D T1-weighted spin echo MRI. Compared to previous results in adult mice, we observed maximum MEMRI enhancement in the cerebellum and hippocampus, but not in olfactory bulb or midbrain. MEMRI provides a new approach to image the developing cerebellar foliation patterns in the neonatal mouse.
