Abstract: The cerebellum is involved in numerous motor-related functions. Recent observations suggest that it also performs fundamental operations on non-motor functions. This was tested by using fMRI in a delayed response task. The results revealed cerebral and cerebellar activation accompanying the process within a time frame of six seconds. The cerebral activations spread from the anterior cingulate cortex through the SMA and pre-motor area to primary motor and sensory cortex. These activation were in parallel to cerebellar activations propagating from the neo- to the spinocerebellum, indicating that various areas are involved at multiple times during the intention and planning of movements.
