Abstract:
Doppler-Verbreiterung in erreichbare Nähe rückt,
Abstract:
Within the scope of this thesis the first laser system \ ¡as designed whìch fulfils all re-
quirements for water vapor and temperature DIAL measurements in the troposphere.
The system consists of a Q-switched unidirectional Alexandrite ring laser for which the
spectral properties are considerably improved using the injection seeding technique. The
master laser is a continuous wave Ti:Sapphire ring laser.
This laser system is the first single mode DIAL system in the near infrared. The high
frequency stability and narrow bandwidth make narrowband backscatter signal detection
feasible, thus avoiding measurement errors due to Doppler broadening of the backscatter
signal.
In intercomparison experiments it was demonstrated that residual systematic errors of
water vapor measurements caused by the laser system are less than 5% in the whole tro-
posphere. Due to low statistical errors it is also suitable for water vapor flux measurements
in the convective boundary layer.
The DIAL system can be used for day- and nighttime measurements in the troposphere.
The new technology introduced in this work is also applicable for the development of
airborne and spaceborne systems. Thus the DIAL technique is a promising method to
improve the knowledge concerning the global water cycle.
