Abstract:
Abstract:
Within the scope of this thesis two different approaches to derive the turbulent vertical
momentumflux using a RASS-windprofiler were examined. The first approach uses the
standard operating mode for RASS-windprofiler, the Doppler-Beam-Swinging mode, while
the second approach utilizes the combination of RASS and the Interferometry principle
which is first ever used for this purpose here.
In the first part of this work it is shown that with the Doppler-Beam-Swinging technique
information about the average turbulent momentumflux in the atmospheric boundary layer
can be derived. The measurements also confirm the result of an error estimation which
showed that the sampling error is the dominating error for this technique.
In the second part it is shown that the combination of radar interferometry and RASS
builds a well suited tool for momentumflux measurements.
Equipped with the advantages of a radar-RASS the new system can determine the ho-
rizontal and vertical wind with high temporal resolution in a relatively small common
measuring volume so that the instantaneous momentumflux can be determined using the
eddy-correlation technique.
The measuring examples displayed in this work represent the first successful remote sensing
of the instantaneous momentumflux at all. It is demonstrated that the system is sensible
enough to resolve the impacts of single eddies on the instantaneous momentumflux.
The averaged fluxes determined from the instantaneous fluxes are all negative and have rea-
sonable magnitudes. The derived flux profiles show a positive gradient so that an estimation
of the boundary layer height can be determined by linear interpolation.
