Abstract: Textural features play a vital role in the analysis of remotely sensed imagery. In this paper, it is shown that the usefulness of textural features can be assessed by generating artificial textures that possess some predefined textural features. If the artificially generated textures are visually similar to remotely sensed images then we may assume that the features used for generating those artificial textures are well suited for characterizing textural properties of remotely sensed images, and thus also for classification purposes.
