Zusammenfassung:
The past year has been a particularly exciting period for those interested in membrane proteins. Two new structures, both with unique and unexpected features, have been reported. Against a background of only three different structures solved until this time last year, this represents considerable progress. In addition, the structure of a soluble fragment of another membrane protein complex has been determined, and several significant ad- vances have been made with other methods of structural investigation. These, together with the two new structures, are the subject of the reviews in this issue.
