 Abstract: UV-VIS spectroscopic investigations were carried out on several sulphur-compounds to attribute the absorption bands (290, 302, 330 nm) observed by in-situ reflectance spectroscopy to particular SxO2−y and S2−x species. It was possible to assign the absorption bands to S2O2-3, S2−2 and S2O2−4. These species are relevant in the catalytic oxidation of H2S over alumina.
