 Abstract: Gas phase adsorption of ethylbenzene in H-ZSM-5 was examined with a constant volume-variable pressure apparatus varying both temperature and sorbate concentration. In the observed temperature and concentration range sorption isotherms are of type I according to IUPAC classification. They are well described by Langmuir-Freundlich-equations. Sorption isosteres calculated therefrom are of Arrhenius type. The isosteric heats of sorption depend slightly on sorbate concentration.
Sorption kinetics is largely determined by Fickian diffusion. However, some deviations from Fick's law were observed when uptake rates were extremely high. For a broad range of sorbate concentration, Fickian diffusivity does not depend on coverage. In this range, temperature dependence is described by an Arrhenius-law as expected from theory. At higher coverage, diffusion coefficients decrease drastically due to increased sorbate-sorbate interaction.
