 Abstract: The YSZ/LSM electrolyte/electrode interface of a half cell is investigated using electron microscopic and theoretical techniques. It is found that, due to strong interdiffusion of all cations except for Sr across the phase boundary, a so-called complexion is formed on the YSZ-side of the interface. This complexion is thermodynamically stabilized by the neighboring bulk phases and its consequences on activity and stability of SOCs are further discussed.
