Abstract: In June 2018, Dr. Shahd Seethaler-Wari interviewed architect Gregor Brune from the city of Göttingen about his building project Integrated Refugee Accommodation and Meeting Center (IFUB).1 The project aimed at transforming an old hospital in Hann. Münden, a town in the district of Göttingen, into a refugee accommodation. It consisted of two phases: an analytical study and a design-and-construction phase. The project started in early 2016, a time linked to fast, unpredictable geopolitical events and decisions in response to the increasing number of asylum seekers arriving at European borders followed by the so-called EU-Turkey Deal. The interview aimed to understand the main challenges for architects while working on refugee accommoda-tion projects during such uncertain times. The interviewer also asked Mr.Brune about his opinion as a practitioner on the response of German cities and the readiness of urban planners, and designers in general, to react effectively in emergency situations.
