 Abstract: Enzyme–enzyme interactions are largely assumed to act co-operatively to render biochemical pathways more efficient. However, under stress the glutamate synthase of B. subtilis does the exact opposite: it inhibits glutamate degradation by sterically hindering the activity of glutamate dehydrogenase.
